Help

We like to think that with a little curiosity the site soon explains itself. Here's a little help for everything that may not be instantly obvious.

Just visiting. You don't need to register to browse.

Navigate:

The splagg homepage displays all new stories, or new offences, listed in all categories. You'll see two other views - guilt-edged - the stories that are rated as the most deserving of this title over any given period of time and recently reprieved - those stories that have been resolved, partially resolved or retracted.

If you get lost - just click on 'splagg' (at the top left of every page) to return to the homepage

Filter:

Each story has categories and keywords (grouped together as tags). If you wish to find other stories with similar tags, just click on that word and we will show you those stories relevant to that keyword.

You'll soon get the idea.

Friends:

You may approach other users to become friends. If they accept, you will become friends and will be able to track their activity as well as open up communication options. By default you will receive an email each time a user makes a request to become your friend. If you receive too many requests, or if this in any way bothers you, just go to profile edit and uncheck the option box (Receive list of friends notification mails). Even if you do not wish to receive email requests, you will still see a one-time on-screen message, and you may always view and manage your friend requests by visiting your profile and clicking on friends. If a friendship request is refused, you will each remain anonymous to the other.

Talk to friends:

For users who have established a mutually agreed relationship, as friends, there is a channel to send a message. This is also dependent on the recipient friend enabling the personal contact form in his/her profile. Messages will be sent to their registered email address and, as you will see when you compose your message, you will reveal your registered email address to this user. Please note there is a profile option to disable one's 'Personal contact form'.

General communication with other users:

We do not operate a sitewide messaging system. The risk for abuse is too great. In most cases, what needs to be said can be publicly communicated through stories, comments or forum posts. We strongly recommend that you do not publish personally identifiable detail such as your email address because of the potential for unsolicited messages.

Behave:

Behind the scenes we will monitor your relationship with splagg - there are no specific credentials. We will never use legitimate content to adversely affect a user's standing as long as it does not contravene our Terms, even if it is not popular - that would be a real shame for the freedom to speak one's mind. Playing an active and positive role on the site will contribute to and reinforce your standing. Your standing will never be made publicly viewable and you will in fact notice little difference in the splagg experience. In brief, we just ask you behave yourself and invite only those you know and trust to the splagg site.

Remember: splagg is not a site to insult or defame others 'just for the sake of it' - please keep it factual.

A last thought

The issues here are often serious however we've added some flavour with the format of the site. splagg is not a court of law, so we cannot convict, nor are we or our users judge or jury. We can however condemn bad behaviour! We are the peers of life who cast our disgust onto the ill-mongers of this world.
