One day I was walking thru a Medina in Morocco, it was mid morning the sun was peaking thru the canopy, people were chattering, I was just wandering and enjoying the array of art and objects, when out from behind a wall of carpets came these pesty little fleas descended upon me like head lice from a street person. I was in the middle of a verbally intense in your face, one way hard sell sales pitch in multiple languages to buy a bloody carpet!!! Genuine, Authentic, Antique, Bargain... these words were tossed in at irregular intervals like tomatoes in a Greek salad.....I finally shook free of this assortment of over eager grubby little carpet merchants........when I was once again hit with this wall of tobacco breath, rotten teeth, flashy smiles.........and the same words to try and convince me to buy once again jewellery!!!......htis happen over and over again........the medina can be such a beautiful place of enchantment, array of colours and aromas.....the voices of many languages.......it can be very romantic and fun once you have learnt how to handle and discipline the sales fleas!!......oh and a fly swat is a handy thing to have while cruising the medina...........learn a little Arabic and French and use body language when you say NO! I dont want a rug made in Algeria, or jewellery from India.........you can have lots of laughs once you have become the master of the flea circus!!!
